Few days ago a chimney that would release a white smoke after election of a new pope has been placed on the roof of the Sistine Chapel. After procession and entrance of the cardinals into Conclave eyes of the mass waiting on St. Peter’s Square were glued to the chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel waiting for the white smoke that would be the first announcement of “Habemus Papam”. Unfortunately, yesterday evening, on March 12, 2013 exactly at 7:42 PM they were all disappointed. On February 11, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation. The announcement was made before the cardinals in a speech in Latin. He explained his resignation by “lack of strength of mind and body”. On February 28, 2013 his resignation became effective.
